An attempt at calligraphy

It's not very good, I know, in fact, it's awful, compared to what calligraphy actually is. But there's a first time for everything, you know.
I painted it with water colours, including the text, which I first wrote with a felt-tip pen.
It says 'bismillahirrahmanirahim' in Arabic, which means,
'In the name of Allah, the most Gracious, the most Merciful

  1. How is this awful Fatima? I was actually marvelling at this... it's SO beautiful!! 8D I love the text you chose. <3 That, in fact, is a wonderful attempt at calligraphy! I've struggled with calligraphy myself - it's certainly a really hard form of art until you get the hang of it. :) And omigosh, I love the background too! The border is so extravagant! The colours you chose really allow for the calligraphy to stand out beautifully. ^^
Do you have calligraphy pens btw? :D (I use a pack from Faber and Castell when I do calligraphy... or art, haha, even though they're not really meant for that. xD)
On the whole this is lovely! You should definitely post more of your calligraphy works if you can - I think you've really got talent in this! :D

    1. Do you really think it's that good? Thank you so much! You really made my day! Yes, it is pretty complicated. You have to hold the pen at a certain angle, and the proportions! They're hardly ever correct. Thanks a lot!
Yes, I have used a calligraphy pens. I have a bamboo kind of dip pen that has to be dipped in ink after every few seconds. I've also used markers with a cut nib for practicing the basics. (Btw, I didn't do this one with calligraphy pens. I made the outlines with a pencil and traced over it with a felt-tip pen. Then I painted inside it with black watercolour.) I haven't done much work in calligraphy except for randomly making letters with a calligraphy pen, and this is my first finished work in calligraphy. I'll post more works when I complete them. :) Thank you! :D
